Running-in new tyres |
|
![]() |
In order for your new tyres to provide optimum performance they should be ridden very cautiously for the first 100 miles in order to condition and settle them on the rim, this allows the tread surface to be “scuffed-in” and function properly...more |
| Original Equipment (OE) Tyres | |
![]() |
Bridgestone manufactures many OE tyres for a wide variety of motorcycles. These tyres have been developed in close conjunction with each motorcycle manufacturer to optimise the handling of the bike in question..more |
| Tyre pressures | |
Check tyre pressures once a week and always when the tyres are cold. Correct inflation pressures are critical to your motorcycle’s safe handling. Incorrect inflation pressures can lead to tyre damage, poor handling and irregular and rapid wear characteristics. If pressures have been adjusted for off-road riding (track-days, trail riding, etc.) they must be returned to the recommended pressures for on-road use before riding on the street. |

| Valves, inner tubes and rim tapes | |
| When fitting new tubeless tyres to wheels fitted with rubber snap-in valves, new valves should be fitted. When new tube-type tyres are fitted to tube-type wheels, the inner tube and rim tape should always be replaced with new items of the correct sizes. The replacement of rubber components in clamp-in valves is also advised. In all of the above cases an airtight metal valve cap should always be fitted. | |
| Wheels and rims | |
Always ensure that the correct tyre size and construction is chosen to match the manufacturer’s wheel size and specification. Always inspect the wheel for damage before fitting the tyre. |

| Tyre suitability | |

Only the tyres listed for each bike in the Bridgestone Fitment Guide 2009 have been approved by Bridgestone for use on those bikes...more |
| Clearance | |
| Centrifugal forces and the heat generated in a tyre caused by riding can increase the tyre’s overall diameter. This effect is greater in bias-ply tyres than radials. Always ensure sufficient clearance between the tyre and the other components on the motorcycle: mudguard, chain, swing arm, etc | |
| Tyre repairs | |
Bridgestone motorcycle tyres can be repaired in accordance with the relevant British Standard for tyre repairs – BSAU159f. If a repair is necessary, it must be carried out as soon as possible after the damage occurs. This reduces the possibility of extension of the injury with use, or deterioration due to the ingress of water or road dirt. Early removal of the tyre increases the possibility of a successful repair. In the event of an essential “get-you-home” temporary repair by the use of aerosol sealant or temporary plug kit, the tyre should then be removed and inspected by an expert as soon as possible, as it may not be fit for further service. |
|
| Dynamometer tests | |
Dyno runs place extreme, localised stresses on motorcycle tyres, sometimes causing invisible internal damage to the tyre’s construction. It is possible that this damage may lead to tyre failure at some point. Never use a tyre for street, track day or off-road use that has been used on a dyno. If a dyno run is to be made we advise that a tyre due to be discarded should be used, and then removed from the bike immediately following the dyno run. |
