Surprisingly, grip is not the single, most important thing to think about when choosing tyres. You need to choose tyres fully approved for fitment to your bike, that will suit the characteristics of your bike and your riding requirements.

A sticky compound alone is no use. The tyre carcass is as important as the tread compound in affecting how a tyre grips the road. If the tyre construction doesn’t suit your bike, it will not deliver the grip to the road.

Heat build-up is another important factor affecting how well a tyre works. One tyre may work better than another on the road, only to show a reverse result at higher temperatures on the track.
